Walnuts are a versatile nut that work in sweet and savoury dishes. Add to a vanilla sponge batter to make a walnut cake – a tea time favourite. Or add to a coffee cake and use whole walnut halves to decorate. 

Walnuts are also a great salad ingredient – try with pears and stilton, or mix with apple, celery, grapes and mayonnaise for the classic Waldorf salad.
